Compensation:

Position Summary  This position will be an important team member contributing to all aspects of the operations of the Barlow Planetarium as it fulfills its mission of sharing its unique, educational and popular style of informal astronomy and space education. This position will also contribute to S.T.E.M. (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics) education experiences within the Barlow.
Responsibilities

Assist the Director (15%)

·         Develop field trip astronomy and science programs

·         Select of public star show programs

·         Select public and rock laser show

·         Develop, update and refine summer camp programs

·         Development, update and refine scout and family programs

·         Hire/select of student workers/volunteers

·         Hire reservationists

·         Create marketing materials

·         Manage of ticketing system

·         Manage website and social media sites (Facebook, Twitter. . . )

Program Delivery (35%)

·         Lead presenter for astronomy and science field trip programs

·         Lead presenter for public star show programs

·         Lead coordinator/presenter for Barlow’s summer Space and Astronomy Academies

·         Lead back¿up presenter for rock laser shows

Operations (10%)

·         Train box office staff, show presenters and laserists

·         Schedule box office staff, show presenters and laserists

·         Supervise of box office staff, show presenters and laserists

Technical (35%)

·         Program planetarium equipment

o   Evans & Sutherland Digistar 2

o   SkySkan SPICE Automation

·         Maintain planetarium equipment

o   Evans & Sutherland Digistar 2

o   SkySkan SPICE Automation

o   Barco video projectors

o   Audio Visual Imagineering SkyLase laser system

o   Kodak EktaPro slide projectors

o   astronomical telescopes

o   Knowledgeable with electronics troubleshooting and repair

·         Computer Knowledge

o   Knowledge of computer operating systems like UNIX, Windows (Windows 95

    through Windows 10)

o   Knowledgeable with computers.

o   Knowledgeable with computer programs.

 

Additional (5% or less)

·         Duties as assigned

·         Participate in campus shared governance

Qualifications  
Required:

·         Associate’s Degree

·         3 years of comprehensive planetarium experience

·         3 years of experience with Digistar 1 or 2

Preferred:

·         Bachelor’s degree in science and/or education

·         7 years comprehensive planetarium experience

·         4 years of experience with Digistar 1 or 2
