Position Summary:

The Student Services Coordinator will oversee all operations, services, and resources of the LGBTQ+ Resource Center. This position will develop and implement programs, provide student support, and advise student organizations. The Student Services Coordinator coordinates the strategic planning, program direction, budget oversight, and student employee or student intern supervision for LGBTQIA2S+ programming to promote social justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion for all students and their allies. Develop both internal and external partnerships in support of program awareness. Develops, evaluates, and implements diversity, equity, and inclusion student success programs and recruitment efforts for the unit to support underrepresented student success.

Responsibilities

 

· Implement and support programs and initiative within the LGBTQ+ Resource Center.

· Serve as an advisor to affiliated student organizations with the LGBTQ+ Resource Center.

· Oversee daily operations for the LGBTQ+ Resource Center.

· Advise, support, and provide resources for students in crisis or in need of assistance.

· Communicate and share with Director and department staff relevant program information regarding students, programs, events.

· Programs, consults, advises, and/or analyzes operations as a diversity and inclusion functional subject matter expert to foster a supportive institutional culture.

· Participates in the development, implementation, and execution of projects, programs, and committees to promote diversity and inclusion initiatives.

· Recommends strategies for addressing complex issues regarding diversity regulations, best practices, and policy interpretation.

· Directs the implementation and adherence to diversity policies and practices in a designated functional area, audits effectiveness, and makes recommendations for improvement.

· Develops and delivers events and workshops to institutional groups to promote diversity and inclusion initiatives.

· Assist in the development and implementation of student success programs.

· Identify, promote, and maintain internal partnerships to coordinate institutional diversity efforts and initiatives.

· Facilitate cross-student retention efforts to raise awareness and involvement in diversity and inclusion programming.

· Maintain, monitor, and utilize assessment tools to demonstrate the effectiveness of programs established with the LGBTQ+ Resource Center.

· Work collaboratively with the University Diversity Officer to design and implement campus-wide programming and initiatives.

· Has direct oversight of LGBTQIA2S+ Pride events.

· Assist in strategic planning, program direction, budget oversight, and student employee or student intern supervision for LGBTQIA2S+ students and their allies.

· Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders and leadership to develop, implement, and evaluate LGBTQIA2S+ programs and meet the needs of LGBTQIA2S+ students.

· Assists in developing and implementing programs related to access, retention, and graduation initiatives.

· Collaborate with the Women’s Center, ethnic studies programs, and other departments on campus to address intersections in diversity and its impact on student success.

· Work collaboratively with all Center for Student Success and Belonging units and other community departments to plan and implement programs and services to foster greater persistence, retention, and graduation of LGBTQIA2S+ students.

· Engage, promote, and create programming for various intersections of populations regarding diversity and inclusion for race, gender, sexual orientation, grade level, career pathways, etc.

· Assists with the development of grant proposals and solicits funds for programming initiatives.

· Attend on-campus and off-campus activities related to program development and professional activities.

· Conduct research activities on best practices to improve retention of underrepresented and underserved students.

· Consult with the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Dean of Students, unit director, and colleagues on performance practices, assessment, and activities.

· Complete additional duties assigned by supervisors. Some night and weekend work is required. Some travel is required.

Qualifications  
Required:

● Bachelor’s Degree

● Demonstrates strong understanding, knowledge, and experience relevant to education, and support services for gender and identity equity.

● Proven ability to connect with and communicate with LGBTQIA2S+, at-risk, underserved student populations.

● Strong interpersonal and written/verbal communication skills.

● A collaborative attitude and evidence of successfully working within a team structure.

● A high level of organization.

● Ability to work independently and with varied campus communities.

● Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Preferred:

● Master’s Degree in LGBTQ+ studies, counseling, education, multiculturalism, communication, or related field.

● Three (3) years of professional experience in a higher education setting.

● Demonstrated experience with first-generation, multicultural, and historically marginalized student populations.

● Bilingual (preference for Spanish or Hmong dialects).

● Successful experience with retention and high-impact practices in higher education.

● Proven skill in working with an electronic student record-keeping database (PeopleSoft, Navigate) and Microsoft Office suite computer applications and a facility for mastering new software formats as needed.

● Experience working with faculty and instructional academic staff.

● Grant writing experience.

● Experience planning large-scale identity-based programs.

● Strong public speaking and presentation skills.

● Professional experience working in higher education or related fields.
