UW Oshkosh Head Start is a federally funded, preschool program for low-income families. We have the opportunity to work with 500 children and their families every school year. We have seven centers in five different cities throughout Winnebago, Calumet, Outagamie, and Shawano Counties. 

Head Start provides comprehensive education, family support and health services to assist the whole child and family in school readiness. Every one of our 26 classrooms is employed with a full-time 4K Teacher/3K Teacher, full-time Teacher Assistant, Part-time Center Aide or Substitute Teacher/Aides.  Each position works collaboratively to develop skills and practices to support school readiness for each child and to support our comprehensive services offered to each child and family.  Classroom sizes are 17-20 children.  School is in session September - May, with additional August work hours for staff.  Our program embraces the High/Scope curriculum, offers many professional development opportunities, and implements Pyramid Model and Conscious Discipline programs to support social/emotional development.

Each position has specific requirements with different rates of pay.  All applicants must successfully complete a background check and fingerprinting and have a valid Wisconsin driver's license or ability to obtain one.

   

HIRING INCENTIVE!!

Head Start has a great hiring incentive happening now! New Hires, working 21 hours or more per week, will receive a $600.00 bonus after 90 days of employment and an additional $200.00 per month thereafter, through June of 2025.  New hires working 20 hours or less per week will receive a 300.00 bonus after 90 days of employment and an additional $100.00 per month thereafter, through June of 2025.

 

Early Childhood Education 4K Teacher -- Early Childhood Education Teachers will work collaboratively with their sites school district 4K program. Minimum requirements are bachelor’s degree in early childhood education and/or related field and Wisconsin Pre-Kindergarten certification #080,086,088 or 090. Wages are $45,355.20. Pay is dispersed over 12 months, 26 pay dates in total.

Early Childhood Education Teacher (non-4k) -- Minimum requirements are associate or bachelor’s degree or higher in early childhood education or degree in related field with experience teaching preschool. Wages are $32,409.60-$35,710.40, based on education.  Pay is dispersed bi-weekly, over 12 months, 26 pay dates in total.

Early Childhood Education Assistant Teacher -- 

Minimum requirements: 
Current enrollment in and successful completion of an associate or bachelor's degree in early childhood or of the Preschool Child Development Associate Credential, (CDA), within 9 months of hire. Wage is $16.79-17.43 per hour, based on education. Pay is dispersed bi-weekly.
Experience working with preschool age children. 
Valid Wisconsin Driver's License. 
Successful completion of criminal background checks.    

Preferences:
Associate or bachelor's degree in early childhood.  
Experience in a Head Start program.
Extensive knowledge of child development, appropriate observation/assessment methods in early child development and demonstrated knowledge of implementing early childhood curriculum.

Early Childhood Education Assistant -- Early Childhood Education Assistants collaborate with full-time teachers and teacher assistants to support children's school readiness. Center Aides will also assist with center responsibilities to maintain a safe and sanitary environment.   Minimum requirements are high school diploma or equivalency (proof of education required) and the desire and ability to work effectively with young children.  This position is part-time with hourly wages of $15.00-15.80 per hour.

Head Start Promotes Education: Head Start supports staff through the purchasing of materials and reimbursement of time spent for completion of EC1 and CDA binders leading to a possible advancement in our program.

Substitute Teachers -- Substitutes are hired to assist at schools based on program needs. Hours and work locations are flexible and determined by applicant. Mileage will be reimbursed if applicant meets driver authorization requirements of UW Oshkosh.  Minimum requirement is high school diploma or equivalency (proof of education required).  Teacher qualified applicants will receive higher level of pay and must have associate or bachelor’s degree in early childhood education.  Rate of pay for substitutes is $15.00- $19.20 per hour.

Cook -- Responsible for the preparation and service of meals, receiving and storing of food stuff and supplies, and the sanitation related to these activities.  This position involves extensive organization, problem solving, records keeping (specifically required by the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP)), and time management. This position is necessary for the daily food program required by Head Start Performance Standards, with particular attention to meeting the standards Child Nutrition, CFR, 1304.23 and Child Health, CFR, 1304.20, and applicable Day Care Licensing Rules.  Rate of pay is $15.39 per hour. Pay is dispersed bi-weekly and reflects paid time. This position offers a great benefits package through the UW, including health insurance and paid vacation, sick, and personal days.
