Position Summary:

This position is responsible for oversight and management of the School of Education and Human Service (SOEHS) assessment practices and overall administration of the SOEHS Professional Education Program. This position advises SOEHS administration on policy recommendations regarding assessment and provides support for faculty and staff in developing, maintaining, and improving upon SOEHS data collection practices. The incumbent is responsible for ensuring compliance with state and federal data requirements, ensuring information and analytic support is provided to facilitate accreditation and assessment, strategic planning, and other policy making. This position requires maintaining all licensure areas of the Professional Education Program in accordance with the adopted mission and goals of the School, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Chapter PI34 Teacher Education Program Approval and Licenses, and guidelines provided by federal agencies and pertinent federal and state law. This position is responsible for selecting, implementing, and managing strategies and initiatives to achieve the program’s objectives, particularly as to initial licensure and subject to School curriculum governance.

Responsibilities

Direct and implement assessment and analytical needs (30%)

  • Provide guidance & support of SOEHS assessment plans.
  • Participate in committee meetings that involve assessment at all levels representing the school.
  • Consult with SOEHS Dean to set School assessment priorities and recommend need and parameters for analysis of programs.
  • Support the reporting efforts to prepare for and ensure SOEHS compliance with accrediting/licensing agency reporting requirements, such as the Wisconsin State Department of Public Instruction.
  • Assist in developing new forms, processes and approaches in SOEHS assessment.
  • Oversee the School reporting for the federal national and/or state program reporting requirements and prepare reports and results for national assessment instruments.
  • Provide needed assessment support for UW System initiatives.
  • Coordinate implementation of the School assessment plan and aid in its application to the SOEHS and University strategic planning processes.
  • Maintain professional knowledge regarding program and formative assessment by attending educational workshops, establishing personal networks, and/or participating in professional conferences.

Supervision of data analysis management (10%)

  • Supervise the actions of the database professionals (including classified, LTE/contracted and student employees) and data collection with the reporting and assessment needs of the University, College, departments, and programs.
  • Manage data collection with the reporting and assessment needs of the University, School, departments, and programs.
  • Oversee the development of procedures for accomplishing data reporting goals via data and portfolio database systems
  • Serve as a liaison between data management area and SOEHS departments and administration.
  • Store and disseminate data, including the state mandated performance assessment; serve as a liaison between DPI and departments and administration.

 

Manage and direct program related activities (30%)

  • Plan and collaborate with school leaders and faculty in licensure program development; collaborate with faculty in other UW Oshkosh colleges in curricular changes and other related aspects of teacher education programs.
  • Facilitate, implement and assist with ongoing review, development and alignment of licensure programs.
  • Utilize best practices, current research and university guidelines and standards to recommend change and assure quality of programs.
  • Stay abreast of practices, laws, developments and other related aspects of teacher educator programs.
  • Serve as a resource to undergraduate school leaders, graduate program coordinators, alternative program coordinators, field experience director, academic advisors and graduate examiner.
  • Develop program policies and procedures and assist in implementation.
  • Attend Academic Policies Committee and Faculty Senate Meetings as necessary to support faculty, academic staff and departments in presenting curricular changes.
  • Collaborate with school leaders to analyze, coordinate and recommend course offerings and class schedules.

 

General administrative (10%)

  • Work with school leaders, field experience personnel, education academic advisors and graduate examiner to implement program requirements.
  • Plan, coordinate and conduct appropriate meetings for area of responsibility.
  • Regularly attend Wisconsin Association of Schools of Teacher Education and Deans and Directors meetings; disseminate information to School Administrative Council and PEP Committee.
  • Create and disseminate student informational materials to implement program changes.
  • Create and update online student program handbook.
  • Serve as School representative on the University Academic Standing Review Council.
  • Supervise the actions of the classified, LTE/contracted and student employees assigned to the PEP and Field Experience offices, or as defined by the Dean.

 

Student recruitment, counseling and advising (15%)

  • Collaborate with certifying officer, and appropriate faculty and academic staff in recommending students for graduation without licensure.
  • Counsel individual students who require intensive and extensive evaluation of student progress in fulfilling degree and licensure requirements.
  • Collaborate with assistant director of academic advising to offer faculty advisor training sessions.
  • Liaison to education academic advisors and to faculty academic advisors.
  • Review transfer student coursework working with Admissions Office to complete Change of Transfer Evaluations.
  • Contribute to recruitment efforts, on-campus (preview days etc) and off campus, including PK-12 outreach
  • Create and maintain relationships with PK-12 counselors

 

Other Duties as Assigned (5%)

Qualifications  
Required:

• Bachelor’s degree in teacher education.
• Minimum of three (3) years of PK-12 teaching experience.
• Experience in program assessment, review, and reporting.
• Knowledge of state accreditation of teacher education and license certification.
• A strong demonstrable interest in and experience in higher education, preferably teacher education.
• Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team in a collaborative setting.
• Demonstrated record of success working with a diverse and wide variety of constituents.
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.

Preferred:

• A master’s degree in an academic field closely related to teacher education.
• Minimum of five (5) years professional work experience in PK-16 educational settings.
• Knowledge of university and school program approval procedures and processes.
• Experience in education and/or teacher education related data collection and project management.
• Knowledge of university and school assessment practices, accreditation policies, and federal and state reporting requirements.
• Experience in, understanding of, and an appreciation for shared governance, particularly at an administrative level.
