Position Summary:

The College of Letters and Science at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Associate Professor (tenure possible upon appointment) of Hmong Studies. The position is open to qualified candidates with a PhD in Hmong Studies, Southeast Asian Studies, Asian Studies, Ethnic Studies, or other related disciplines. We are searching for an individual who will develop and support our Hmong Studies Program through campus leadership, curricular development, scholarship, outreach/recruitment, and student mentorship. Responsibilities include acting as Director of the Hmong Studies Program, including developing a Hmong Studies Certificate with the aim to develop a minor or major, developing and teaching relevant courses, maintaining a productive research agenda relevant to Hmong Studies, advising and mentoring students, conducting appropriate service activities at Department, College, University, community, and professional levels, and assisting with community engagement. Responsibilities

Developing and supporting the Hmong Studies Program, including a certificate with an aim to develop a major a minor; developing and teaching relevant courses; maintaining an active and productive research agenda related to Hmong Studies; advising and mentoring students and working collaboratively with other campus units to serve students; conducting appropriate service activities at Department, College, University, community and professional levels; and assisting with engagement with the broader community.

Qualifications  
Required:
  • PhD in Hmong Studies, Southeast Asian Studies, Asian Studies, Ethnic Studies, or other related disciplines required. ABDs with the expectation of PhD completion within one year of start date may apply.
  • Some teaching experience
  • Active and productive research agenda related to Hmong Studies
  • Experience mentoring and advising undergraduate students, especially those typically underrepresented on college campuses
Preferred:
  • Language skills in Hmong or understanding of Hmong language
  • Some administrative skills
