Identifies work unit resources needs, supervises, and develops effective custodial teams and/or coordinates project work to ensure the cleanliness, orderliness, and safety of institutional property.

Normal workdays are Sunday through Thursday 8:00PM to 4:00AM. Occasional weekend work may be required. Must have a valid WI driver’s license and be authorized to drive a University vehicle upon appointment. A criminal background check is required. Must pass a pre-work screen to ensure the ability to perform essential physical functions of the position.

Responsibilities
  • Identifies work unit resource needs, manages workflow components, schedules logistics and secures resources for the completion of established projects by internal and external entities
  • Implements the use of and provides training for new supplies/equipment to ensure adequate utilization
  • Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of employees
  • Develops, implements, and schedules operational work plans of staff for one or multiple projects or work units
  • Identifies, develops, and implements facility emergency and hazardous response policies and procedures to align with institutional safety rules and regulations
Qualifications  
Required:

Perform tasks requiring standing, bending, stooping, kneeling, and walking considerable distances between and within buildings on campus to review proposed projects and inspect completed work normally performed by supervisor's staff.

Ability to climb stairs, ladders, scaffolding, and reach above head to review proposed projects and inspect work performed on interior and exterior of campus buildings normally performed by supervisor's staff.

Must be able to read/understand chemical labels/signs and/or pictures.

Essential functions and responsibilities of the position must be able to be performed with or without a reasonable accommodation.

Preferred:

Work experience with institutional or commercial custodial procedures, methods, techniques, cleaning agents/chemicals and equipment used in a large-scale custodial operation and the ability to train subordinates to properly do their job.

Knowledge of occupational hazards, safety precautions and procedures related to housekeeping operations and the ability to train subordinates in this area.

Management experience.

Customer service experience, and effective oral communication to work and interact with subordinates, co-workers, students, guests, and staff from diverse backgrounds.

Key boarding skills and basic knowledge of MS Word and Excel to input and extract data from a variety of programs.

Ability to write clear and concise instructions, reports, memos, and letters.

Knowledge of recordkeeping and inventory practices and procedures.

Ability to conduct on-site inspection of employee work, equipment, facilities and maintenance projects through campus.
