Position Summary:

The College of Letters and Science at the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh invites applications for an Assistant Professor (tenure track) or Associate Professor (tenure possible upon appointment) of US Latino/a/x Studies and Director of the US Latino/a/x Studies Program. The position is open to qualified candidates with a doctoral degree or appropriate terminal degree. Possible fields of degree could be, but are not limited to, US Latino/Chicano Studies, History, English, Spanish, Anthropology, Sociology, Education, American Studies, Ethnic Studies, Political Science, Women and Gender Studies, Fine and Performing Arts, or relevant disciplines, with an open tenure home. We are searching for an individual who will develop and support a US Latino/a/x Studies program through campus leadership, curricular development, scholarship, outreach/recruitment, and student mentorship.

Responsibilities include acting as Director of the US Latino/a/x Studies Program, which will entail developing a US Latino Studies certificate with the aim to develop a minor or major, developing and teaching relevant courses including an introductory US Latino Studies course, maintaining a productive research agenda relevant to US Latino/a/x Studies, advising and mentoring students, conducting appropriate service activities at Department, College, University community, and professional levels, and assisting with community engagement. Required:
  • Doctoral Degree or Appropriate Terminal Degree in fields such as, but not limited to, US Latino/a/x/Chicano Studies, History, English, Spanish, Anthropology, Sociology, Education, American Studies, Ethnic Studies, Political Science, Women and Gender Studies, Fine and Performing Arts, or related discipline.
  • Demonstrated personal and/or professional engagement with US Latino communities in a way that enables partnerships and relationships that inform research and/or professional work.
  • College teaching experience.
  • An active research agenda relevant for US Latino/a/x Studies.
  • Experience in advising and mentoring students, especially those underrepresented on college campuses.
  • Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
Preferred:
  • At least two years of college teaching.
  • Administrative, organization, and/or community leadership skills.
