Position Summary:

The College of Letters and Sciences at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh seeks applications for a tenure track assistant professor of Hmong Studies, discipline and tenure-home open, contributing primarily to the Oshkosh campus but with the expectation of contribution to all campuses and course delivery modes (in-person, online [synchronous/asynchronous], and hybrid).

Responsibilities Teaching and developing courses for the Hmong Studies Certificate, pursuing an active research agenda, advising/mentoring students, and service to the Hmong Studies Program and UWO. 
Qualifications  
Required:
  • PhD or degree in hand by the start of the appointment. ABD candidates will be considered, provided the Ph.D. is confirmed by September 1, 2024 (start of the appointment for international candidates).
  • Active or potential for a research agenda related to Hmong Studies.
  • Demonstrated personal and/or professional engagement with Hmong communities in a way that enables partnerships and relationships that inform research and/or professional work.
  • Experience mentoring and advising undergraduate students, especially those who are underrepresented on college campuses.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Preferred:
  • At least one year of college teaching experience.
  • Language skills in Hmong or an understanding of Hmong language.
  • Content and research expertise in some of the following areas: critical refugee studies, Asian American Studies, transnationalism, colonialism and US imperialism, intersectionality, and decolonial methods.
  • Focus on history or education.
