Directs the set up and maintenance of technical and operational equipment for theater performances to ensure high quality theater production and department sustainability. Provides technical instruction, develops and implements safety policy, and may develop program budgets, and/or train and supervise stage crews (professional and/or students).

This person maintains and supervises a scene shop, a 488 seat Proscenium Theatre and a 125 seat black box theatre all of which serve as learning laboratories for an undergraduate BA/BS theatre program. The Technical Director is responsible for the on-time planning, engineering, mechanical drawing/drafting and installation of the designed scenic elements as well as purchasing, budgeting, load in and load out of sets. This person supervises technical components at all technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances. Candidate must also teach a course each semester.
1. Master of Fine Arts or equivalent terminal degree in Theatre Technology or Theatre Design at time of application
2. Experienced Lighting Designer
3. University teaching experience at time of application
4. Knowledge of and experience maintaining safety standards per OSHA
5. Advanced experience with theatrical rigging systems and master electrician skills
6. Advanced experience with digital lighting and sound technology
7. Knowledge of software programs related to and used in the field
8. Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
1. 3 or more years of teaching experience
2. 3 years professional experience as a Technical Director
3. Knowledge of and/or preferred membership in off campus activities consistent with duties of this job such as Membership in United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT)
4. Scenic Design background
5. Training in AED/CPR, first aid and fire extinguisher use
