Position Summary:

Designs, implements, and maintains infrastructure and/or moderately complex technical integrations across multiple systems, including in-house systems, acquired commercial, and external such as Cloud hosted. Provides day-to-day maintenance and long term assistance to ensure subsystems and infrastructure function together and business needs are met.

This position reports directly to the IT Manager of Server Support, deploying and maintaining operating system configurations, software, and customizations used by IT Staff and the campus community.  Work assignments require knowledge of server technologies, operating systems, configurations, and tools as well as understanding of basic network protocols.

A. Integrates, identifies, troubleshoots, monitors, and resolves moderately complex, routine, and varied supported services, systems, network, and application problems according to established processes and procedures. (50%)

1. Maintain and continually research best practices in infrastructure administration and automation.
2. Recommend changes to current and future implementation of technologies related to automation.
3. Consult with technical staff to determine appropriate technology solutions to meet unit needs.
4. Recommend specific hardware and software to meet unit needs.
5. Assist on the review of server-based policies for relevancy and current needs.
6. Participate in continuation of operations related to data centers and system recovery.
7. Package applications, create device profiles, and develop scripts to provide automated deployment of software and settings to end users.
8. Test new OS releases to confirm current deployment solutions are sufficient.

B. Configures, maintains, upgrades, develops, and tests IT systems and services in alignment with industry best practices. Runs, maintains, and operates technical systems and infrastructure. (30%)
1. Manage permissions and authentication associated with shared resources.
2. Monitor and maintain day-to-day server operations including operating system updates, backups and malware protection.
3. Monitor and maintain server-related services, such as virtualization, file storage, and encryption.
4. Develop emergency backup and recovery procedures for institutional server configurations.
5. Coordinate the installation and maintenance of server updates with users and staff.
6. Diagnose and resolve complex problems as they relate to the institutional server infrastructure.
7. Maintain system documentation and communicate system changes to technology staff.
8. Maintain and ensure availability of centralized, decentralized and remote network services.
9. Follow change control standards and protocols to maintain reliability, redundancy, and security.
10. Maintain best practices and compliance for data protection and security of privileged/protected information.

B. General Administrative (20%)
1. Serves as a point of contact for internal and external stakeholders, identifies needs, provides solution options, and communicates issue updates and resolutions
2. Participates in the evaluation of new vendor software releases and impact. Documents and communicates system enhancements or changes
3. Assists with the planning and coordination of system resources, upgrades, security, implementations, and integrations
4. Inform the department leadership and team of automation issues.
5. Exchange ideas and acquire knowledge from local and remote colleagues.
6. Train staff members in the use of institutional infrastructure resources.
7. Maintain technical expertise through professional development.
8. Perform other work related tasks as assigned.
9. Participates on the implementation of small to medium technical projects as needed


• High school diploma or equivalent at time of application.
• Strong knowledge of building and/or deploying operating systems and/or applications.
• Demonstration of experience with some of the following:
   o Using scripting for automation.
   o Security Compliance tools such as Cisco Amp, Stealthwatch, Umbrella, etc
   o Deploying OS to clients via automation.
   o Packaging applications, settings, and user defaults.
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion


• Associate degree or higher in computer science, information systems, technology or a related experience.
• Experience using current security tools such as Cisco Secure Endpoint, Microsoft Defender, Stealthwatch, Umbrella, Palo Alto Firewalls, Duo, SIEM technology, etc
• Experience creating and maintaining linux and/or unix server systems
• Proficiency in the use of server administration tools such as deployment toolkits and configuration software.
• Experience designing, planning, and managing complex server infrastructure environments.
• Experience working with server hardware configurations including redundant systems for memory, power, cooling and data storage
• Proficiency in server administration equivalent to a minimum of 2 years of experience
• Strong orientation to customer service for a diverse community.
• Ability to work in a team environment.
• Strong attention to detail and follow-through.
• Demonstrated communication skills both oral and written that are professional, effective, sensitive and clear.
• Certifications in related disciplines or technologies
