Leadership
- Provide academic, curricular, policy, research, enrollment, strategic, and administrative leadership on matters related to innovation, research, and graduate education at UWO
- Provide leadership for programs by establishing strategic direction and setting priorities that align with the strategic directives of the Office of the Chancellor, ensure units effectively carry out duties in a way that best supports the university’s initiatives. Provide direct supervision of program leadership, and monitor compliance with laws, regulations, university policies and procedures, and relevant contractual obligations
- Advance the mission and vision of the Graduate Council; Graduate Program Coordinators; Faculty Development Program; Directors of OSRCA, OSP and CETL; and consult corporate partners in the region
- Liaise with WiSys and UW System research and faculty development offices
- Promote and facilitate increased focus on peer-reviewed publications and extramural grant activities by faculty, students, and Instructional Academic Staff
- Demonstrate effective communication to foster an environment of free exchange of ideas, collegiality, and integrity
- Provide leadership within appropriate professional, governmental, and academic organizations
- Build awareness for UWO innovation, research, and graduate studies by enhancing external relations throughout the region
- Exercise supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
Collaboration and Program/Policy Development
- Advise and collaborate with the Chancellor and/or Vice Chancellor on critical issues, represents the functional area of supervision and/or Chancellor or Vice Chancellor at appropriate meetings and events as requested; and serve on and/or leads various program and/or university committees as directed to address issues
- Lead special initiatives and/or grant-funded programs that require the Vice Chancellor's attention with respect to program design, planning, coordination, and interaction with internal and external stakeholders
- Build consensus and develop collegial, collaborative working relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, partners with administrative and academic departments to support initiatives, and gathers input from key stakeholders to support recommendations
- Promote active collaboration among faculty and academic staff engaged in scholarly and creative endeavors
- Promote active research and creative activity collaboration between students and faculty at all three campuses
- Advance the goals of the four academic Colleges and the Office of Continuing Education with respect to graduate education, research, and faculty development
- Build a culture of innovation and trust through leveraging of academic relationships and transparency
- Collaborate closely with the academic Deans and campus Directors
- Develop and implement policies and procedures by working with shared governance
- Facilitate collegial, collaborative relationships with multiple stakeholders and partners
- Collaborate with WiSys and University Marketing and Communications to develop marketing and advertising plans for UWO innovation
- Cultivate progressive academic and administrative policies related to innovation, research, and graduate education
- Foster collaborative relationships with all faculty, program coordinators, administrators, and off campus stakeholders served by the graduate programs and UWO research, Sponsored Programs, and development offices
- Plan, develop, implement, and evaluate research and innovation through employing Intellectual Property-oriented faculty research and service to achieve the goals of the University as a research enhanced institution
- Represent UWO at UW System, state, national, and global forums related to research and innovation, economic development, and civic engagement
- Advance special initiatives as assigned by the Provost and the Chancellor through building consensus
- Advocate, in cooperation with college administrators and faculty leadership, for the growth and development of innovation, research and graduate faculty with internal and external audiences
- Work collaboratively with College advancement officers, UW Oshkosh Foundation advancement officers, and the Alumni Association to secure and allocate funds reinforcing scholarly productivity
- Work with leaders in Enrollment Management to foster growth in innovation and research and maintain stability in graduate studies and faculty research and development
Administration and Assessment
- Ensure initiatives are effectively using program assessment and data analysis to improve initiatives and strategies, identifies opportunities for improvement, and makes recommendations to the Vice Chancellor for approval
- Monitor on going assessment and continuous improvement of programs and services by guiding the establishment of annual goals, ensuring progress towards goals is met, articulating challenges, and reporting on annual outcomes and achievements for programs and services
- Support UWO’s Quality Assurance activities
- Ensure Higher Learning Commission (HLC) accreditation standards regarding faculty research and development and graduate education (online and face to face) are met
- Take an active role in addressing any HLC findings relative to UWO innovation, research and graduate studies and work with the programs, colleges, departments, and University Administration to rectify noncompliance
- Assist colleges and programs with meeting unit-specific accreditation standards, as needed
- Assist with ongoing assessment and continuous improvement of programs and services by establishing annual goals, ensuring progress toward goals and reporting on annual outcomes of programs and services
- Monitor ongoing assessment and continuous improvement of units and identify opportunities for improvement through data analysis
- Create new fundraising, advancement, outreach, grants, and community activities within units
- Oversee, together with the respective directors, the operating budgets of each unit
- Allocate resources and maintain fiscal responsibility and accountability for all state and revenue accounts
- Facilitate the productive use of any central resources allocated to support the UWO Strategic Plan, with respect to research and innovation or other initiatives to further graduate studies and faculty development
- Serve on the Provost’s Administrative Staff and the Chancellor’s Leadership Council
