Position Summary: The Radio TV Film Department, within the College of Letters and Science, invites applications for the position of Radio Director. This position will start fall 2020. Responsibilities are split between managing the operation of the campus radio station, WRST-FM, while serving as the FCC-mandated Chief Operator; and teaching courses within the Radio TV Film major/minor. Course subjects will include audio production, broadcast journalism and broadcast operations. This person will work closely with student volunteers and employees, serving as the faculty adviser for the student radio organization that assists with station operations and programming.


1. Serve as FCC-mandated Chief Operator for WRST, including weekly logs, Emergency Alert System, public inspection file, tower maintenance, relicensing, etc.

2. Serve as faculty adviser to the student organization that assists with station operations and programming of WRST.

3. Attend all department meetings and serve on department committees.

4. Serve as faculty mentor for student-led productions.

5. Assist in the decision-making process for equipment acquisition.

6. Collaborate with other campus and community organizations.

7. Maintain relationships with relevant industry organizations and broadcasters.

8. Serve as a liaison between the department and various outside broadcast/media partners (Wisconsin Public Radio, Public Radio Exchange, Wisconsin Broadcasters Association, etc.)


1. Teach courses in audio production, broadcast operations, broadcast journalism, radio participation courses, with the opportunity to develop new courses.

2. Advise students.

3. Other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Required: 1. Masters Degree
2. At least 2 years of professional experience in radio broadcast production/operations
3. Experience with FCC rules and regulations as they pertain to the operation of a broadcast facility
4. Experience in audio production
Preferred: 1. MA or MS in a media, communication or closely related field
2. General knowledge and familiarity with other pertinent laws/regulations as they apply to broadcasting (streaming, podcasting, copyright, journalistic ethics, underwriting, etc.)
3. Prior teaching experience
4. Prior experience in non-commercial broadcasting
5. Working knowledge of broadcast workflows
